The Hansel Media Soccer match was played on the 27th of August 2016 in an effort to raise awareness on eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These match dubbed “Goals for Youths” centered around the MDG – which range from halving extreme poverty rates to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education and how these the issues hinder the development of youths in Cameroon.
This Hansel Media Soccer match pitted Star Veteran FC of Buea against Cameroon entertainers. Before the match began, CEO of Hansel Media (Ngwane Hansel) explained the rationale of the event to the players and a multitude of supports that came to witness the event. Epulle Jeff, Cameroon’s seasoned actor gave the kickoff to get things rolling. He did this in a Messi-like manner… although it seemed more of luck than skill.
The entertainers almost drew first blood but for the timely acrobatic save from the Star Veteran keeper. Within minutes, Star Veteran opened score with a goal that left Entertainer FC goalie stranded. Soon after, another followed. There was nothing Coach Fredash could do to stop the onslaught. Makon, Mulav Sonila, Marvist amongst other entertainers tried their luck to no avail.
In the second half, things began to look up for Entertainers FC as coach Fredash entered the pitch in an attempt to remedy the situation. He however lacked the prowess of an attacker as his finishing was left wanted on a couple of occasions. A defensive error by Star Veteran centre half made the referee award a penalty to Entertainers FC.
Mbulav Sonila, veteran actor stepped up and converted the spot kick, much to the joy of the plethora of supports who came to cheer their entertainers. Unofficial commentary was provided by the Senior Pastor of the Laughing Ministry who never failed to make everyone laugh out loud. At full time, the scores remained 2 goals to 1 in favor of Star Veteran FC. Refreshments followed soon after and pictures were taken to commemorate the occasion.
